We know that the need exists in our community for more
housing that is safe, stable and affordable. Too many people
in Halton are living in substandard housing, or paying too much
of their income on rent, leaving little to live on. The ramifications for these individuals, as well as for the community at large, are enormous.
In addition to its work raising public awareness about housing issues in Halton, AHH is beginning development of a housing project. This first project will have an enormous impact on the people that will make Eldon House their home. Beyond that, it
can serve as an awareness tool, to show by example that building more affordable housing is good for our community. It will allow residents to
stay in their own community instead of being forced to relocate to Hamilton where the
rent is cheaper.
We have been fortunate to have been granted SEED Funding from the Canadian
Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). Our project was chosen from hundreds of applications submitted this year. With this funding, we have hired a project manager,
who will guide us through the various development stages we will go through until
Eldon House is completed. |
